COMING UP: Goresbridge – Ireland’s leading select event horse sale

The Goresbridge Go For Gold select event horse sale, run by Ireland’s premier sport horse sales company from 14-16 November, is a must for event riders and owners with ambitions to compete at the top level.

Ireland’s leading select event horse sale is offering 70 of the very best young horses, carefully chosen on pedigree, performance and potential.

Previous graduates of the select sale included the superb Cooley Rorke’s Drift, who jumped three clear rounds to finish ninth individually with Jonty Evans at this summer’s Rio Olympics, and Prince Mayo, winner of the Tattersalls CCI3* in 2016 with Paul Tapner.

Oliver Townend’s Cooley SRS, third individually and a member of the winning British Nations Cup team at Boekelo recently  and Copper Beach, who took the CCI3* at Rebecca Farm in the USA under Buck Davidson this year, were also bought from the Goresbridge Go For Gold sale. Cooley SRS was the second highest-ranked Irish-bred event horse according to the World Breeding Federation For Sport Horses (WBFSH) Rolex world ranking list.

Oliver Townend said: “I’m a big fan of the Goresbridge Go For Gold sale. I’ve bought and sold lots of horses through it over the years and had a lot of success with them. It builds every year, and I always look forward to it. It’s unmissable night.”

One of the stand-out lots in this year’s catalogue is Euro Prince, who represented Ireland at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The 13-year-old by Lougheries Quiet Man (High-Scope) has jumped numerous double clears at three- and four-star level and won the Ballindenisk CCI3* in 2014.

The sale also features two entries at the WBFSH young horse world championships at Le Lion d’Angers: Cornascreibe Glenpatrick, one of only three six-year-olds chosen to represent Ireland, and seven-year-old Loughnavatta Cedar.

About the Goresbridge Go For Gold sale

The sale takes place at Barnadown, Gorey, Co Wexford and at Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey, Co Wexford – an hour south of Dublin. Lots 1-39 will be shown on the flat and over showjumps at Barnadown from 2pm on Monday, 14 November, while the same horses will be shown over cross-country fences at Barnadown from 12 noon on Tuesday, 15 November. At 3pm on Tuesday, 15 November lots 40-70 (three-year-olds) will be paraded in hand at Barnadown, while from 12 noon on Wednesday, 16 November lots 40-70 will be lunged or loose jumped at Barnadown. The auction and gala dinner takes place on the evening of Wednesday, 16 November at Amber Springs Hotel.
