Lena about her fascination for horses:

“I love finding the right balance of patience and not losing the horse’s energy – horses have a certain amount of time when they are first put in liberty where they are really expressive and so this is the time to get the special shots.

To get dynamic shots my assistants sometimes need to encourage them a little and this is where the right balances of approach and not winding them up too much need to be found

It is vital to be calm and respectfully approach the horse. Try to get the horse trust you. And then, magic can happen. Especially shooting horses in liberty. They are curious and starts to flirt with the camera, knowing that I´m working with them. Sometimes it feels like a game we play.

It is about getting special expressions of the horse, not only the beauty; but capturing a horse´s personality. That´s what fascinates me the most, all horses are different, with different personality and behavior. I am aiming to understand their way, and I like to find less conventional views of the horse that express some of the inner qualities of him.”
