“Cavalry on Guard” by Candela González

Spanish Photographer Candela Gonzalez, pays tribute to the cavalry units of the world in her new book. “Cavalry on Guard”.

This photographic collection is a unique vision of the spirit and equestrian culture of these mounted officers from six different countries, documented with the imposing and unique style of Candela González. From the ceremonial to the operational this book showcases the contribution of both horses and officers to their nations and the equestrian world. Portraits of their daily routines, traditions, details, but above all they reflect the honor of service, the loyalty to the uniform and the devotion to country.

The photos of each of the units featured in this book are accompanied by the words of their commanding officers and riding masters, highlighting the admirable cavalry history of each of the regiments throughout the centuries that forged their present characteristics.

The book also features one of the most historical events of this community of cavalry regiments. The joint performance of the cavalry units of Spain’s National Police Core, Republican Guard of France and the General Management for National Security of Morocco in Avignon. A feat that was repeated again this past October at the International Horse Salon of El jadida in Morocco sharing the stage with the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment. A unique occasion that reflects the constant collaborative efforts of the regiments of these countries together in their operational responsibilities, and in representing the equestrian principles of their countries, as well as their values as mounted security officers and the spirit of military cavalry.
