Editor´s note:

“Harmony and interaction with horses is an art that you will never fully learn.”

These words belong to the Olympic dressage rider and renowned trainer, Klaus Balkenhol, one of the portraits in this issue. Twice, he reached the highest dressage level possible; 2 Olympic medals, with two different and quite “regular” service horses at belonging to the police corps.

The relationship between horse and rider never stops fascinating me. Especially because some horses sometimes tend to be quite a challenge. Princess Martha Louise chooses to describe this relationship in an interesting manner as she introduces her previous talented showjumper, Countryman, in a rather charming way:

“Some you like and some you don’t. Some you simply click with and love, and even though they sometimes behave abominably, you tolerate them, because their “upside” is so worth it. Countryman was one of those horses. He had real character,” she says.

Another rather special horse and rider-relationship is the famous duo Marco Kutscher and his powerful showjumping stallion Cornet Obolensky. Obolensky has come to dominate the scene in showjumping-breeding and competition like no other stallion. He showed exceptional jumping talent and scope, already as a two-year-old, but his rideability proved to pose a challenge:

“Marco should get a medal for the huge patience he had with Cornet,” Cornet’s groom, Malin, reveals.

In this issue you will also meet the talented Danish rider, and businesswoman,
Tina Lund, and dressage rider Gonçalo Carvalho, known as Portugal ́s highest ever- achieving Olympic rider. Not to mention – EQUILIFE have met the Norwegian- native rider, William Buick, one of the world’s most famous jockeys. Enjoy!
